SPEAKER’S PROFILE

  Mr. Charles Ooi is a training specialist, specializing in the core area of people management. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration degree from the Victoria University of Wellington, NZ. He has extensive experience overseas in Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, India, North America and in Europe.

He has been certified for the key corporate programs, which include Sony QMDEI, Hersey and Blanchard Situational Leadership 2, DDI Interaction Management, Zenger Miller Frontline Leadership and Covey 7 Habits of Highly Effective People for the companies he served in.

Mr. Charles Ooi has worked for the Asia Pacific Training Centre for Initiatives of Change, Melbourne, Australia as Coordinator and Faculty member for the International Studies in Effective Living from 1977 to 1978.

After a stint in Hong Kong and the Far East working with people in education, he continued his career with the Asia Plateau Training Centre, IOC, Panchgani, India from 1980 to 1984 as Faculty member for the Leadership Development programs for people in industry.

In 1987, Mr. Charles Ooi joined the TL Management as Lecturer. He was promoted to Principal in 1990 and served in that position for over 2 years.


From 1992 to mid-1995, Mr. Charles Ooi worked in Sony Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd as a Senior Assistant Manager before joining Solectron Technology (M) Sdn Bhd as Training Manager in 1995. He was promoted to Training Director in the year of 2001.

While serving with Sony Electronics, Mr. Charles Ooi was responsible for the proliferation of the corporation’s Quality Management Excellence program, (QMDEI), company-wide. As well as being a facilitator for this he has also developed programs related to leadership empowerment, supervisory management, interpersonal communication and other people skill programs.

During his services with Solectron Technology from May 1995 to July 2003, Mr. Charles Ooi contributed significantly to the growth and people development of the company, as the Site Training lead, for the plants in the states of Penang and Johore. With a cohesive team the Company won the prestigious Quality Management Excellence Award (1997), the Prime Minister’s Quality Award (1998), and the internationally-coveted Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award (1999) during this time.

Amongst the programs he developed and conducted are Customer Excellence Management, Persuasive Presentation, Leading Impactful Meetings, and Supervisory Leadership for exempt staff, Professional Business & Social Etiquette, and so on. He was also an accredited trainer for 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and Frontline Leadership for the company.

Since August 2003, Mr. Charles Ooi has added Persuasive Communication, Effective Executive Public Speaking, and Synergy through Team effort, and Dynamic Work Habits to his offerings for multinationals in the country and overseas.

Other company-specific management programs he conducts, by contractual appointment, include Managing from the Start, Answer First and The Caring Manager. He is also licensed to facilitate the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People to an American Multinational in the country.
